To make this homemade pink lemonade, I am using my good old lemonade recipe because it is simply delicious, not to mention, super easy to make. It makes a big batch, so it is perfect for a big gathering, summer BBQ, or any special occasion.

Pink Lemonade Recipe Ingredients

  • Simple syrup. Making any drink with a basic simple syrup is the best option. Not only will it be easier to measure, but it will also mix a lot better with the other ingredients. Use equal parts of white granulated sugar and water to make it.
  • Fresh lemons. This makes all the difference! The fresher, the better. The juiciest lemons have great coloring and give a little when you squeeze them.
  • Cold water. It helps balance the flavor of your lemonade. Room-temperature water can make lemonade taste more acidic and sweeter.
  • Beet juice. It’s a natural way to give lemonade a beautiful pink color. Since we’re using a very small amount, it will not alter the flavor of the lemonade.
  • Ice. To make this lemonade the perfect, refreshing beverage.

How To Make Pink Lemonade

  1. Make the simple syrup by simmering one cup of water with one cup of white granulated sugar until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool completely.
  2. Squeeze the fresh lemons until you get about 1 cup of lemon juice.
  3. Mix the simple syrup, lemon juice, and about 8 cups of cold water in a big pitcher.
  4. Add about ½-1 teaspoon of beet juice until you get the pink hue that you want.
  5. Taste for sweetness and add more sugar if needed. I find that the amount of simple syrup we use in this recipe is more than enough. However, if you notice that it is a bit sweet for your taste, you can add more water.
  6. Add plenty of ice and serve!

Different Ways To Make Pink Lemonade

  • For me, the best option will always be beet juice because it is a natural ingredient and it does not change the flavor of the lemonade.
  • You can also use red food coloring. Yes, it does work! Just add a few drops at a time until you get the pink color that you’re looking for.
  • Add dragon fruit simple syrup. This one is a bit tricky because not everyone can find frozen dragon fruit at their local grocery store. But if you do, you can add about ½ cup to the simple syrup, let it chill, and strain. The only thing is that it may add the dragon fruit flavor to the lemonade.
  • You can also use fruit juice. Pink lemonade can be made by mixing regular lemonade with any pink or red fruit juice such as strawberry, cranberry, raspberry, or watermelon. However, they will alter the flavor of your lemonade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use bottled lemon juice to make lemonade?

Yes, you can. Bottled lemon juice can be used for making lemonade. However, in my opinion, using fresh lemons will always give you the best flavor.

What Is The Best Way To Add Color To Lemonade?

  • For me, it will always be by using natural beet juice. The amount you need is so small, that it will not alter the flavor in any way. You can easily find it at most grocery stores. However, in the past, I have also used some of the beet juice that you get from canned sliced beets and it works great.
  • If you don’t want to use beet juice, you can also use red food coloring. This is the same food coloring that is used to add color to cake or cookie frosting. You can find it in the baking section of the grocery store or at most craft stores.
  • Lastly, use pink or red fruit juice. But do keep in mind, that to give lemonade a pink hue, you will need a large amount of added juice. So, it will add an additional flavor to your lemonade.
