Colombian Avena (Oatmeal Shake)

Ingredients
  

  • ¾ cup 60 g old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup 240 ml water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole cloves or ⅛ tsp ground cloves
  • 3-4 tbsp sugar (More if needed)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 5 cups 1.18 liter milk

Instructions
 

  • Place the oats, water, cinnamon, cloves, sugar and salt in a large pot and bring to a boil on medium heat.
  • Add the milk, bring to a boil once more on medium heat. Cover, lower heat to low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Pour the oatmeal mixture into a jar or container, let it cool completely, cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
  • Strain the mixture through a sieve to remove the cinnamon sticks and whole cloves, place the mixture in a blender and blend for a few minutes until you get a smooth consistency. Taste the oatmeal to see if it needs more sugar, you can also add more milk if you want it to have a thinner consistency.
  • Serve cold.
