This classic Tequila Sunrise is a refreshing cocktail made with tequila, orange juice, and grenadine for its signature sunrise effect. It's fruity, easy to make, and perfect for any special occasion.
Fill a tall glass (highball or Collins glass) with ice.
Pour the tequila and orange juice over the ice. Stir gently to combine.
Slowly pour the grenadine into the glass. It will sink to the bottom and gradually rise, creating the signature sunrise effect.
Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
Serve immediately.
Notes
Use your favorite tequila. Blanco tequila is the traditional choice and has a clean, crisp flavor, while reposado adds a smoother, slightly oaky taste.
Fresh orange juice is best. Freshly squeezed orange juice gives this cocktail the brightest, freshest flavor, but good-quality store-bought orange juice works well too.
Pour the grenadine last. Slowly pour it over the back of a spoon or along the inside of the glass so it sinks to the bottom and creates the signature sunrise effect.
Don't stir after adding the grenadine. Serve the cocktail as is to preserve the beautiful layered look. Guests can stir it themselves before drinking if they prefer.
Adjust the sweetness. Start with ¼ ounce of grenadine and add a little more if you like a sweeter cocktail.
Chill your ingredients. Cold orange juice and tequila help keep the drink refreshing and reduce how quickly the ice melts.
